Touch-up / Refiguring & Coating Service

OMI's in-house Mirror Coating Service is performed by professional opticians - working with professional equipment to provide you with a mirror that meets OMI’s quality standards.
When it’s time to have your mirror re-coated,
consider our Mirror Touch-up / Refiguring Service.
  1. Remove the old coating.
  2. Test the mirror with Ronchi, Knife edge and interferometer providing Ronchigrams, Foucaultgrams and P-V, RMS, Strehl.
  3. If we find that there is a problem with your mirror’s surface, you have the option of letting our professional opticians upgrade it to OMI Quality Specs before we re-coat your mirror. There are typically two types of refiguring jobs, depending on the condition of your mirror’s surface; Type 1: Touch-up or Type 2: Refiguring. We will tell you what the mirror needs and provide a quote.
  4. Re-test the mirror providing all of the “after” results mentioned above
  5. Coat the mirror

Touch-up / Refiguring Service
(Coating Service included)

Type 1: Touch-up Service

To qualify for a Type 1 Touch-up Service, your mirror must have the following characteristics:
  • Spherical aberration or mild zonal errors that do not exceed 3 waves.
  • An acceptable edge (no significant turned-down or turned-up edge).
  • No significant errors of asymmetry such as astigmatism, trefoil, or clover leaf.
If your mirror has Type 1 characteristics, our opticians can touch up your mirror’s figure to meet or exceed OMI Quality Specs. The prices for this service are shown in the table to the right.

Type 2: Refiguring Service
(re-polish to sphere, then parabolize.)

If your mirror does not qualify for a Type 1 Touch-up Service and has any of the the following characteristics, it requires Type 2 Refiguring:
  • Spherical aberration or sharp zonal errors that exceed 3 waves.
  • Significant turned-down or turned-up edge.
  • Significant errors of asymmetry such as astigmatism, trefoil, or clover leaf.

If your mirror has the Type 2 characteristics, our professional opticians must first polish your mirror back to a sphere before refiguring. The prices for this service (shown in the table to the right) take into account the existing focal ratio of your mirror:
