    (OMI Quality Guarantee)

Optical Mechanics' optical shop has the capacity to produce large-aperture high-quality optical sets and we can fabricate many large projects concurrently. James Mulherin, Optical Mechanics' Master Optician, oversees the production of all optics. Skilled technicians work with senior opticians through the grinding and polishing stages. A skilled optician with years of experience controls the final figuring and testing of every optical set. During the past few years James Mulherin has developed and refined manufacturing and testing techniques that enable Optical Mechanics to produce very high-quality optics in a shorter period of time than anyone else in the industry. These techniques enable us to produce and deliver your optics on schedule to meet the demands of your project.

Cassegrain Telescope Optics

Optical Mechanics fabricates and tests all of the Classical Cassegrain and Ritchie-Chretien Cassegrain optics for the telescopes, Lidar, and other optical tube assembly systems we manufacture. We have the capability to design, fabricate, and test Cassegrain optics up to one meter in diameter in our optics shop at our facility in Iowa City, Iowa. Call us for a quote for pricing and delivery on Cassegrain optics sets for your project.

Newtonian Primary Mirrors

Optical Mechanics developed a unique manufacturing process to produce high-precision Newtonian mirrors. Our techniques and testing facilities enable us to fabricate and certify several mirrors each week. We have the capacity to fabricate over a hundred mirrors each year. Optical Mechanics is the largest manufacturer in the world of Newtonian mirrors for the Dobsonian telescope industry. We produce the majority of mirrors for Obsession Telescopes, the largest manufacturer of large precision Dobsonian telescopes in the world.

Obsession Telescopes sells more telescopes with OMI primary mirrors than all other mirror manufacturers combined!

"At Obsession Telescopes, we pride ourselves in offering our customers the best large aperture Dobsonians in the world. Thanks to Optical Mechanics, not only can we supply our customers with the best telescopes and the best optics, we can now give them the best delivery too!"
